Do I Have to be Naked to Get a Job?

Good question right?  Well, I’m definitely seeing an increasing trend….more and more acting jobs are asking for nudity of some kind.  Even student films…Really!?!?  This increase has been so significant that I’ve heard from casting directors and agents alike that an actor needs to know where they stand on the subject of nudity….none, partial, topless or full.  An agent once told me a story about a client that booked a fully nude job and promised she could handle it during the audition process, but just couldn’t drop the robe on set, making the actor look horrible.  Therefore, we are now told to know exactly where we stand and what we’re willing to do so that we don’t find ourselves in a situation like that.

Acclaimed shows like True Blood consistently have nudity.  Does that mean that the only way to catch a break in this business is to be nude? I know every actor wants to find his or her breakout role, but you have to know yourself. Unless you absolutely know without a doubt that you can be nude in front of a group and possibly thousands or millions when the movie or show airs, error on the conservative side.  How do I feel about this?  I’m not a prude and if some nudity would make sense for the character and situation I would seriously consider it.

How do you feel about this?  Let me know by leaving a comment below, sending me a Tweet or posing on my Facebook Page.

I was raised in San Jose, CA and Ingram, TX, giving me some city sophistication with a little Texas charm. I can also shoot a gun and ride a horse better than you. ;) After moving to NYC, I studied acting while paying the bills with a marketing job. Now I focus on acting full time in Los Angeles!
