What’s In A Headshot?

Posted by

On October 3rd I got new headshots done.  I got the proofs last week, all 1205 of them, and then I had the arduous process of trying to narrow them down.  Yikes!  I needed to decide on main photo for theatrical work (TV & Film) and another for commercials.  So, I did some research to find out what makes headshots successful and I stumbled upon this article:  Spotlight: Los Angeles Photographers on What Makes an Effective Headshot.  According the photographers interviewed, I needed to have headshots that would stand out in a thumbnail submission.  Choosing the theatrical shots was pretty easy, but the commercial/ sitcom shot was difficult.  According to the article, I had to find a photo that had a real smile with thought and openness behind the eyes.  What?!?  Well, with the help of family and friends, I finally narrowed it down to three at this point.

I was raised in San Jose, CA and Ingram, TX, giving me some city sophistication with a little Texas charm. I can also shoot a gun and ride a horse better than you. ;) After moving to NYC, I studied acting while paying the bills with a marketing job. Now I focus on acting full time in Los Angeles!
